We begin the album with the song ‘Before I Go’ It starts out with what sounds like horror movie music, a slow orchestral sounding piece, ghostly whispering begins as the music gets louder before a pause and a whispering female voice says ‘Hello There’, were then plunged into a drum beat that almost sounds like a gun going off before slowing and being joined by the other instruments. The vocals begin with that signature metalcore scream being joined by clean vocals they switch between heavy and clean vocals for the entire song, there’s a small pause with the orchestral and whispering taking over near the end before we’re treated to the vocalists clean and harsh vocals again.

The next song ‘Never Knows Best’ begins with a short two line speech before kicking into the music backed by piano and more electronic sounding stuff, we begin with clean vocals this time before switching to the heavy, it follows a similar vocal switching pattern to ‘Before I Go’, this song lacks the ghostly whispering of the first one closing out with a piano. Endgame, the next track follows similarly to the last.

Skipping ahead, eyes up is a lot happier sounding than the last few and includes vocals from vocalist Kalie Wolfe, there’s more clean vocals in this one than heavy which is a change from the last few, this also doesn’t really have an outro instead ending abruptly. The last five songs (Echos from the gutter. Broken Window, Hollow Bastion, So Safe and The Black Briar) all follow the same formula as the rest of the album

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this album, it gives off a horror movie vibe which is always a good sign, the added extras like the creepy whispering really help it, the entire album feels like you’re in something like the exorcist or the conjuring and the album would definitely fit in any of those movies. For a debut its really well recorded and mixed, I for one loved it, if your a fan of horror or creepy shit in general you’ll probably love it too.
