Heart The Killer - Dirty Device album review

About the band

Heart The Killer are a rock band formed in Ohio, USA they released their debut album Dirty Device in 2020.

The review

The opening track ‘In Your Eyes’ starts out strong with a guitar introduction before the rest of the instruments and vocals, we get an expert level guitar solo near the end too, ‘Maybe’ the next track is a little slower than the last, we get another amazing solo mid-way through the song, and a spoken portion of the lyrics, ‘in the fall’ follows a similar slowness that ‘Maybe’ had. Skipping ahead, ‘Believe’ starts out with an acoustic guitar, the song is ballad-like throughout, we begin to speed up with ‘Jessica’s star’ then skipping ahead to the last song ‘Ever Since’ the whole song is an acoustic guitar and some vocals.

I’m kind of on the fence about the vocals, as there’s times they just don’t sound right and other times where they sound pretty good, the guitar, bass and drums are exceptional, I love some of the acoustic stuff as well, it brings a good mix of styles and sound to the album. For me they’re almost reminiscent of bands like Thin Lizzy, early Guns N Roses and Early Bon Jovi.

The Conclusion

I’m on the fence for this one, I love the instrumentals but the vocals are very hit and miss, as a whole they give me an early hair metal meets rock n roll vibe which is pretty cool, i’m interested in hearing more however, for a debut its pretty solid.
