Code Noir - Jack of all spades Review
About the band
Code Noir originally formed in 2015 as a four piece, two members left while recording their debut and Micheal and Adam decided to continue as a two piece, they released ‘Jack of all spades’ in November 2020.
The review
The album starts out with ‘The devil within’’ its a fast-paced, energetic song, you can hear the punk/heavy metal influences throughout, it works as a really good set up for the rest off the EP, we also get treated to an amazing guitar solo near the end. Supersonic is song no. 2, the longest song on the EP its not as fast as ‘The devil within’ but still has all the power, we slow down just to be jolted by another amazing solo.
Skipping ahead a bit, ‘Monarch’ is the slowest song on the album and helps break it up a little, I personally love the mix of acoustic and electric guitar mixed with the piano, its more relaxed and the sped up guitar near the end still manages to fit before being blended into the piano outro which sounds beautiful. ‘Crucify their way’ is the final song and we’re back to the fast heavy sound. It does good to connect back to the first few songs and as an energetic and catchy end to a pretty solid release.
Conclusion
In all, it’s a really solid release, the instrumentals are amazing and you can hear a lot o different influences in the music, the subject matter although dark really suits the style they chose and the piano and acoustic in ‘Monarch’ both complement and contrast with the electric guitar. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the vocals, I just didn’t feel this style of music was right for his voice, other than that it was amazing, you can hear these lads have a passion for what they do
