Alicia

Can you introduce the band?

Phil

Rob and I (Phil) are originally from Northern Virginia and we have known each other since the 3rd grade. We moved to Chicago after college and began hanging out/working at music venues. This is how we met Patrick and Spencer. The two of them had already known each other from working at music venues together as well.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Phil

When Rob and I were in Virginia, we had a 2 piece band that played more heavy punk stuff. While in that band, we wrote a slower, doom focused song called “REZN”. We liked the name, so we named this project after that song. Ultimately, we reworked this old song which became the first track off of our album 'Let it Burn' called “Relax”. We still have a setlist pinned up in our practice space from our last show as that punk project, and “REZN” is on the setlist.

Alicia

You have an album coming out, can you tell us about the recording process?

Phil

This was our first time leaving Chicago to record. We went to central Illinois to record at Earth Analog with our engineer friend, Matt Russell. We wrote the entirety of ‘Solace’ leading up to our studio time so we could devote an entire week to just laying down tracks for the record. The studio has an apartment above it so we were able to focus all of our energy on tracking this record. It was a great experience and we loved being able to fully immerse ourselves for a full week straight.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Phil

Yes, we are doing a full US / Canada tour beginning in late May that will go through the end of July. We are working on more plans for the fall as well.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Phil

The music scene in Chicago is incredible. There are many great artists from all different genres here, and they are very supportive of each other. The people in Chicago really care about their local music scene, so shows are always packed and a great time.

Alicia

Was music something you always wanted to do?

Phil

Absolutely. Rob and I have been making music together since middle school. Patrick and Spencer have also been making music/recording music since a young age as well.

Alicia

Is there anything in the works you can tell us about?

Phil

Beyond our new record and our North American tour, we are finalizing the release details for our collaboration record with Vinnum Sabbathi through a series called Postwax, which will be put out on a label called Blues Funeral. More information regarding that release should be out soon.

Alicia

Is there anything you want to share or promote

Phil

We just hope to see everyone at a show this year!
