Alicia

Can you introduce the band?

Dusk

DUSK is a one-man band project from the creator Meshari Sangora From Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, It is more of a nickname or an artist name than a Band name, it was always something that interested me and that came from the early stages of my life and my love for music when I discovered Buckethead.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Dusk

I wanted my music and style to reflect in intensity the mere seconds between day and night hence, DUSK, and a stage name or a nickname was always something that intrigued me.

Alicia

You have an album coming out, can you tell us about the recording process?

Dusk

It was actually a long but smooth process at first, I started working and writing the album in November 2021 and finished the project in November 2022, I finished the music and then started looking for artists that will fit each song and each theme of each track that eventually makes the whole project come to life, the most difficult part I would say in the whole process was finding the right vocalists and connecting with them with adding the time zones differences and the lack of an actual physical meet up and working together on the track. In the end, it was super fun to do, and having the artists I worked with is what made things a bit easier.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Dusk

There is a plan for the middle east tour and after closing that tour, we are planning to play in the US and Europe. this upcoming 2 years I’m dedicating it to shows and tours all the way

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Dusk

The music scene in Saudi Arabia is still fresh and growing day by day, there is a growing demand for all genres you can think of, especially the ones that infuse the Arabic traditional sounds, and that also would depend on which area you live in, with all the similarities we have but each area has its own and unique traditional sound and music. the metal scene has it's an older generation where they were all underground and being careful not to get raided from the police. but with all the news and the changes that are occurring in the country metal is being a bit more accepted or at least checked out by the general public. so, In conclusion, I would say in 10 years things would be a lot more open and easier for new artists to emerge into the scene and we would be the proud ones who started this road for them.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Dusk

Music was something very special to me since I was a kid, growing up a bit more I know how special music was to me and to everyone, I always like to notice how people react to certain things, music always gives the person something new, I was very interested in music since the 6th grade, tried playing and learning the guitar but back in those days things were very different from now. so my relationship was on and off with the instrument and kept going like this until I went to study for university in the UAE, and from there I got into DJing and actually went to an academy for it. After getting to a good level and I was comfortable with my current skills, I wanted to take up production and I knew right away that I wanted to add the guitar, so I took it upon myself to learn it from scratch and that was around7-8 years from starting the guitar learning process, as a whole career from starting the DJing till now, that would be in the 10-year mark starting from this year (2023). To me, this is a journey that is still young and flaming with fire and love for the music and hopefully will stay like this for a very long time!
