Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Sean

We are Display of Decay, Canadian death metal band from Edmonton Alberta formed in 2007.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Sean

Right around 2005, we were just hanging out around the fire having some drinks, and a buddy started talking about this weird dream he had where he was a cannibal, and had literally visioned eating all of us around a fire (kinda ironic timing right?) and we were all like…..alright this is kind of weird, next thing you know someone else blurts out ‘Woah, that would be such a Display of Decay.’ It wasn’t one of those lightbulb moments, but it was cool enough that we stuck with it.

Alicia

Your album just came out can you tell us about the recording process?

Sean

We started writing after the Decimate the West tour in 2019, we had 3 or 4 songs finished when the pandemic hit. Initially, we had planned on an EP but with how long we were all locked up, we ended up writing another 5 or 6 songs that would be compiled into the 8 you hear on ‘Vitriol.’

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Sean

Yep, we’ve got a few dates lined up around Alberta this coming fall, but we’re also looking to head out East again in the spring and Europe in the summer of ‘24.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Sean

Alberta has always had an eccentric and dedicated fanbase. Whether its music or sports, they go hard. We’ve lost quite a few venues around here since the pandemic which is unfortunate but there is a strong scene with lots of elite acts and up-and- comers starting to form.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Sean

I always knew I wanted to be an entertainer of some sort, the problem was I wasn’t funny enough to be a comic and I wasn’t fit enough to be a professional wrestler, but I could make decent enough music that people kept showing up to the gigs and supporting hahaha. I first started playing guitar around 14 or 15, and ever since that day, I wanted nothing else. I practiced at my peak about 12 hours a day consistently to the point it really did consume every aspect of my life, and I don’t regret it one bit.
