The review

‘Haunt’ is a 7 song EP, ‘Hymn’ is the opener and doesn’t have any lyrics, it sounds like a medieval chorus almost. we go from the almost calming first track to a slow but powerful guitar and what sounds like cymbals and an organ in ‘Revenant’ its recommencement of bands like Kiss and Type O Negative, the inclusion of Latin in the lyrics is an interesting choice and fits well with the theme of the album, its the longest song on the record at just over 7 minutes and doesn’t have much of a tone change.

Planet horror begins with a drum then morphs into what sounds like a theremin, we go back into regular instruments after that, the rest of the album follows a very similar formula up until ‘Thy will be done’ which begins with an acoustic guitar, its a lot more laid back than previous songs, the last song ‘Rise from your grave’ begins with a solo electric guitar similar to the acoustic in ‘Thy will be done’. As a whole it sounds like almost like an early goth rock album, it reminds me of bands like Type O Negative or Christian Death.

In Conclusion

I enjoyed this EP, I love goth rock and I think it fits really well into that category, I also love the band ghost and Vexing Hex seem very inspired by them too, Its a really well put together release and i’ll definitely be looking more into their music

Mikey Strikingly similar to Ghost (some may say identical to), I see enough differences to be grouped separately.Surf Rock/Occult Rock? Haunt's music is something I feel Ghost could never attempt, let alone, pull off as successfully as Haunt has.As I love Ghost, I see Haunt as an extension to a genre I can't get enough of.
