10 Songs of 2021

As 2021 comes to a close lets take a look at the awesome music we got this year. Its been a rough time but slowly we’re things are coming back, the end of the year especially was great for music. Also a YouTube and Spotify playlist will be linked at the bottom so you can check out all the songs I talk about. Just as last year, these are in no particular order.

Den Of Lions - Words That Burn

Band Logo

Words That Burn came back and better than ever, coming out in late August of 2021 with ‘Den Of Lions’ This incredible and heavy single, after how lockdown was this was the perfect pickup. Coming out just after their bloodstock appearance it was perfect timing. I definitely enjoyed the track when I took a look at it (You can check my review below), I cant wait to see what 2022 has in store for them and with their new addition of Angel Croitor who is also an amazing photographer and videographer (I’ll leave his site linked) things are only looking up for them

Atoms Divide - Graveripper

Coming out in June of 2021 the second track of Graverippers second EP is a fast paced thrashy song, they definitely show their influence here and its a better tone setter for the album than ‘Instinctive Extinction’. I’d recommend checking out the whole EP but as an introduction to the band I’d recommend this song highly. This is another amazing offering from Wiseblood records, they’ve been killing it the past year or so and I’m excited to see what they and their bands come out with next.

Blackhearted - Redemptus

The title track of their 3rd full length album, the heartbeat sound at the beginning is pretty cool, the track is this amazing Punk and doom metal mix that probably shouldn’t work but absolutely does, I love the mix of talking, heavy vocals and normal singing, this was my introduction to Redemptus and I have to say I’m impressed, I’ll be looking into their other stuff, you should too, the whole Blackhearted album is an amazing mix of influences by an incredibly talented band and the title track is the best starter for anyone wanted to get into their music.

Vulgar Romance - Rebel Priest

Lost in Tokyo’ Is an amazing EP that came out in June, Rock ‘n Roll meets hair metal, listening through the EP I chose track 3 ‘Vulgar Romance’ as my 2021 pick, almost ballad like, its an amazing heavy song that gives me huge 80’s Mötley Crüe vibes, to be fair the entire album does, but this song in particular is really catchy and I feel the best showcase for the bands style and talent

Summoning the cosmic devourer - Deformatory

This song and band in general are perfect for your death metal fix, the heaviness just doesn’t let up with these guys, even when they slow things down its unbelievably heavy, the album its on ‘Inversion of the unseen horizon’ is packed with heavy and intense bangers but I had to pick one and this was the one.

The Frog Brothers - VHS

Album Art - Credit unknown

Another offering by Wiseblood records, they had a really good year, the EP ‘I heard they suck… blood’ is an amazing vampire themed release by Canadian death metal band VHS has a few amazing song, I chose this one purely for the funny title, horror inspired and heavy, this is an amazing EP and I highly recommend it.

The Psychology - Dead Exaltation

Album Art- Credit unknown

I covered a lot of death metal this year, Coming out at the start of 2021 in Febuary, ‘Despondent’ Is a really good progressive death metal album, I did review it earlier in the year so I wont go too much into detail now, the song I chose ‘The Psychology’ has an amazing mix of heaviness and heart, its a great example of the bands range as musicians and songwriters and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us

We The Feeble - Seversun

Album Art

‘Headlong through blood’ by Russian heavy metal band Seversun is an incredible album, not going too into detail as I’ve already reviewed it, I chose ‘We the feeble’ as its one of my favourite songs on the album, honestly these guys should be in every heavy metal fans playlist

Nameless Burial - Mother of Graves

Band logo - Credit unknown

Released on ‘In Sombre Dreams’ back in January, this beautifully melodic metal track is unmistakably catchy, again its something I’ve reviewed already so I wont go into detail but I enjoyed every song on this release so picking just one was so hard, I settled on ‘Nameless burial’ as my 2021 pick.

Venous - Malfeasance

I chose the intro track off Malfeasance’s self titled debut because it sets the scene for the whole release, the distorted sounds at the beginning leading into the heavy riffs, its a pretty interesting thing, I love it when bands add stuff like that to their music, it makes it interesting, this band only began in 2020 and they’re already putting out quality work.

So that was my 2021 list, I know its late going up but hope you enjoy looking through it, I was going to put more on but decided to keep it at 10 for simplicity reasons, Happy new year and enjoy 2022, I compiled all the songs here I could find on Youtube and Spoitfy in playlists below.
