Interview with Pessimystic

Pessimystic are a blackened death metal band from Ottawa, Canada formed in 2023

Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Pessimystic

We are Pessimystic.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Pessimystic

The name is a portmanteau consisting of pessimist and mystic. This will quickly make sense to anyone who listens to our music or reads into our lyrics.

Alicia

You have an album coming out can you tell us about the recording process?

Pessimystic

We recorded our debut album, “Burnt Offering”, at a place called Apartment 2 Recording in Ottawa, Ontario. We went into the studio with everything written, but with an open mind on things that could be changed and experimented on. The most important part for us was capturing the essence of our sound in a way that would get the point across.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Pessimystic

We do plan to at least do a smaller tour or two next summer. Time will tell, but we are willing to play as much as we can.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Pessimystic

Ottawa’s music scene is interesting. It is a fairly small scene with a few very solid local bands. The venues and promoters are organized and there are a lot of great shows coming through. I’m not personally very involved in the scene, I mostly keep to myself, but I will say that there is an atmosphere of counterculture in the music scene here. Ottawa is a government city but the extreme music is pretty sick. There is not as much appreciation for metal in this area as there is in nearby places like Montreal, but I think it’s a good place to play or see a live show.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Pessimystic

It was, yes. I knew I would be a musician at an early age. My father is a musician, so it’s in my blood and was a big part of my environment growing up.  Thank you for having us Sidghe Plays Metal
