Interview with Deorbit
Deorbit are a progressive rock/metal band based in Milwaukee
Alicia
Can you Introduce the band?
Deorbit
Deorbit, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are an instrumental heavy progressive
metal/rock three piece.
Alicia
Where did the name come from?
Deorbit
I actually stole it from a Swedish goth/metal band we like called Novembre. It reflected the themes I wanted to explore and presented the inverse of the name of a previous band two of the three of us were in called Concentric.
Alicia
Your album just came out can you tell us about the recording process?
Deorbit
We recorded the drums in a studio and then guitars and bass at home, and reamped the signal again in another studio. Then I added another layer of live tracked guitar in the studio, and after that, all the other layers (synth, violin, hurdy gurdy, hammered dulcimer, cello)
Alicia
Do you have plans to tour this release?
Deorbit
Mainly some weekend warrior stuff or a week or two, but we are getting up there in years and have pretty demanding jobs. If the words get out and audiences want to hear us, we would love to do more.
Alicia
Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?
Deorbit
It’s pretty eclectic here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin- we have all kinds of artists that orbit around the DIY punk/metal genres but with their own distinct flavors.
Alicia
Q. Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?
Deorbit
It’s the only thing any of us know how to do, and we don’t see it stopping anytime soon.
