Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Chris

Sovereign Council is a female-fronted metal band from Kingston/Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Formed originally in 2011, the band has gone through multiple line-up changes and dynamic growth over the years. The current lineup is Lisa Thompson (Vocals), Chris Thompson (Guitar), Joe Lyko (Guitar), Shaun Vanhooser (Bass Guitar), and Brandon Schneider (Drums).

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Chris

Our name comes from the Sovereign Council, a governmental body established by France in April 1663 for administering New France, its colony centered in what is now the St. Lawrence Valley of Canada. Your album just came out can you tell us about the recording process. This EP was written and recorded mostly at home. Guitars and bass were all recorded in Joe’s studio (Dark Moon Productions). Drums and Vocals were recorded in Silver Wings Studios. Mixing and mastering was also done at Silver Wings Studios. We tend to create a rough pre-production version of the songs before refining them and then eventually going to the studio to record the final versions.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Chris

There are no plans set in stone yet but we are all feeling the need to perform live again. We are also planning to complete another EP relatively quickly.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from

Chris

The music scene in Kingston and Ottawa (and most of Canada for that matter) is extremely supportive and we’re proud to be a part of it. The love and support we have felt from other bands and fans in our scene has been amazing and we’re very thankful to be a part of it.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do

Chris

Music was always a deeply ingrained passion for everyone in the band. We use it as an emotional outlet, a means of expression, and a social network. I can’t imagine my life without this band and the friendships formed because of it and I think that everyone in the band feels similarly.
