Interview with NOMAD
NOMAD are a progressive death metal band from Canada, all answers by Bam
Alicia
Can you introduce the band?
Bam
What’s up, we’re Nomad, a Progroovesive Death metal band from the North Okanagan Valley in BC Canada. Our first album “The Mountain” is coming out March 3rd
Alicia
You have an album coming out can you tell us about the recording process?
Bam
oh man, I started recording the drums in January 2017. Then every year we ended up with a different singer and had to start the vocal writing process over again. Eventually we said screw finding a new singer, let’s do this ourselves, we’ve all been doing backup vocals this whole time, let’s just do so much more that they become the lead vocals. And then as soon as we started writing and practicing vocally that way, there was this little thing called the COVID 19 pandemic. We all had separate bubbles for the pandemic so it turned into a band hiatus. I focused on really upping my singing while playing drums game, and mixing the album during that time, then last year we started getting back together again, got finished, and got ready.
Alicia
Do you have plans to tour this release?
Bam
we’re starting with some local shows, and then weekend warrior overnight trips to start spreading ourselves out. A proper tour can come a little bit later.
Alicia
Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from
Bam
The Okanagan Metal scene is super under-appreciated worldwide. We’ve got a slew of killer bands here, but it’s a struggle to support it with such a small population.
Alicia
Was music something you’ve always wanted to do
Bam
it was early on, when I was a little kid in piano lessons I really wanted to switch to drums but that was a no go from mom and dad, so I moved on to other things, then came back to it as a teenager, finally got those drums, and haven’t looked back.
