Interview with OMNIVIDE

Omnivide are a progressive metal band formed in Moncton, Canada in 2020 was formed by the members of a previous Opeth Tribute project called Sunbird. The members wanted to move on from paying homage to one of their greatest influences and to begin writing music of their own, they released their debut album a tale of fire in march 2024.

Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Omnivide

We are Omnivide and we come from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. We are a progressive metal band with a lot of genre influences like Tech/Death Metal and Symphonic/Power Metal. We tend to bounce between heavy and atmospheric music in all our songs

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Omnivide

Every band practice for a couple of months we would suggest a couple of band names until we landed on Omnivide, the name is about all that is nothing, the existence of nothingness in our universe. Vide is a French word that means empty so it’s a play on words.

Alicia

Your album just came out can you tell us about the recording process?

Omnivide

The recording process was very long but fulfilling, we needed to elevate our playing in order to record the sound we wanted and we needed to learn how to engineer that sound. We invested in a lot of new gear and started from scratch until we eventually recorded all the guitars and added all the orchestral, synths, keys, bass etc then we recorded the drums with Francois Fortin in Quebec and once we had everything recorded, we worked with him to get the album quality we landed on. We would record full songs and delete them and start from scratch because of the knowledge we gained during the whole recording process, we were definitely perfectionists about the whole album.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Omnivide

We have a tour booked during March/April 2024 all across New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. We haven’t played any shows in Quebec or Ontario but we know there’s a good metal fan base in those provinces so we are excited to show them our music.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Omnivide

The music scene in Moncton is dominated by other genres of music besides metal but we are lucky to have a loyal metalhead fanbase in the region that always attends the metal/punk shows. It has kept the metal scene alive for many years and has created some great bands, there’s a lot of hidden talent in this side of Canada.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Omnivide

Music has always been something we as a band and as people always wanted to do. We are lucky to have the same goals and aspirations in Omnivide and that will allow us to create some exciting music onward. We are all dedicated musicians and sacrifice a lot of aspects in our lives to be Omnivide and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
