Today we had a chat with Witchkicker

Q1. So on the first interview this is normally an ice breaker, the answer can be funny or serious, if you could describe your music in one word, what would it be?

Hutchy - Ballsy

Deborah - Crackin

Carleigh - Catchy middle aged dad new age fusion jazz (oops that’s 8 words) ;-)

Mo - Girthy

Q2. Where did the name come from?

Deborah - Celestial beings appeared from the heavens and a name generator spat out Witchkicker... nahhh, think Mo suggested it.

Q3. How did the band come together?

Hutchy - I was told to audition by a friend. I found them on facebook, auditioned and that was it. Deborah - received a message while at a festival and said sure jaysus may give this a go.. Hopefully ill be in an alright state since our first jam was the evening i got home from the festival.

Mo - Carleigh and i were jamming for a while and we decided to hit up a particularly class bassist i met at a Jinjer gig some years back, we progressed and then we held auditions for vocalists - Laura was the only one who showed hard work and genuine motivation to be in a serious band, plus her songwriting and lyric capabilities are just out of this world, so it all melded together pretty easily

Q4. You've released two singles so far, how do you feel about the positive reception they've received?

Hutchy - Really good to get such positive feedback, it's really encouraging especially now with the situation at it is. Looking forward to writing new tunes and the positive reception has helped keep the motivation up.

Deborah - Couldn't say it better then the gals

Carleigh: Delighted, people have been super supportive and its a great feeling! Mo - Yeah it’s amazing to be part of something where people are genuinely buzzed and so supportive of each of our releases. We’ve another one coming (24th April) and i’m so glad that we finally have something that people can listen to and enjoy

Q5. Do you have tour or gig plans for when all this is over?

Hutchy - The main priority will probably be working on new material and getting back into the routine of weekly rehearsals. Once the gigs start flowing again hopefully we'll start making plans for gigs further afield.

Deborah - See what comes, grease the wheels once we get back to normality, release some more music and plan gig domination

Carleigh: All our gigs were cancelled which was a complete bummer, We have a gig in the fall at the Grand social! Fingers crossed this all clears by then, but it seems unlikely.

Mo - Ah yes, i’d love to be back at it, missing gigs a lot especially considering we were on a big roll with a shed load of gigs and keeping audiences anticipated etc. However we’ll come back with a bang and more songs for sure

Q6. Are there plans for eps or albums in the future?

Mo - I think it’s safe to say we’re gonna record like, but not until Winter or even 2021. We wanna focus on our shows, writing and perfecting much more and generally have fun before we’re back in the studio

Q7. Are there any bands you want to work with?

Hutchy - I'll work with anyone

Deborah - Pretty much the same, if people are interested we can pimp ourselves out

Mo - Work with, hmm, at the moment i’m really digging Green Lung, would love to have an opener with them. That’s just the fangirl in me though. There’s a bunch of nordie mates in bands i have too that are catching my eye and i’d love to do gig swaps with them

Q8. Do you guys have a process for writing?

Hutchy - Usually Mo writes a riff, brings it to the room, the girls jam it out, then I record it, bring it home and write the lyrics and melodies. I'd imagine in the future that process will develop as we grow as a band.

Mo - It’s cool whenever I sit down with a cuppa tea, lay down a riff, sort out a general idea for the progression and then when we head into rehearsal Laura, Deb and Carleigh just merge together with their intricacies and brains and bring the song to life. Writing with them is an absolute breeze

Q9. Are you excited for what the future has in store for the band?

Hutchy - Yeah, once we get going again the excitement will pick up. Looking forward to seeing what opportunities come our way.

Deborah - Absolutely, good music, good laughs, opportunities and new experiences tick a lot of boxes. Can't wait

Carleigh: If it’s positive and fun and full of craic, then i’m happy no matter what!

Mo - Totally. I’m game for whatever comes our way

Q10. Is there any festival that you hope to play in the future?

Hutchy - Top of my festival bucket list is Arctangent!

Deborah - Waken, EP, Siege of Limerick and really any opportunity that comes our way, i enjoy gigging

Carleigh: Personally I’d love to play Download or Hellfest in Canada! Locally, the siege of Limerick !

Mo - Siege for sure, Bloodstock, Hellfest, maybe even MetalDays eventually.
