Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Whythre

Hell yeah! We’re WHYTHRE

  • Adam Chambers - Vox, Guitar, Synths

  • Shon Petrey - Guitar, Synths,

  • Eric Close- Bass

  • Steve Fournier -Drums

Alicia

Where did the name come from

Whythre

Shon Petrey- I was drawing in a notebook looking for letter combinations that looked visually appealing. And I like the idea of everything withering. Your album just came out

Alicia

can you tell us about the recording process.

Whythre

The drums were tracked at Don Gunn’s studio. Don is dialed deep into the Seattle music scene and has all the latest toys to get an absolutely monster drum tone. Gotta have real drums! It helps that Steve has been recording death metal percussion his whole career…he knows how to play in the studio. Guitars were tracked at Shon’s spot using real amps and a load box. We chose to use cab sims instead of mic’ing so Shon’s windows didn’t shatter. We actually mic’d cabs at Adam’s spot for another series of recordings and you could hear it from two blocks away! We tactically chose to do that during a Seahawks football game…the neighborhood is usually loud as hell those nights so the additional noise wasn’t that big a deal. Mic placement is a pain in the ass though and real amps + cab sims give the best of both worlds. Adam tracked the vocals at his spot using a vocal preamp and an outboard compressor. Nothing terribly high-end…we found a sound we liked and ran with it. Bass was tracked at Eric’s place using a Kemper and DI. Shon mixed the entire album.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Whythre

We’re working on lining up shows for when the album comes out. Follow us on social media to hear more about that once it’s finalized.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Whythre

We are from Seattle, WA in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The metal scene here reflects the native forests, nature, and constant rain. There’s a lot of the year where it’s raining with little to no sun….it makes for some great metal musicians.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Whythre

Shon- As a kid I wanted to be a running back for the Cowboys, but playing metal is pretty good too.

Adam- Still not really sure what I want to do, but certainly enjoying this metal thing with the WHYTHREfam. Glad we’re finally putting out ‘Impregnate My Hate’ and extremely stoked that people seem to think it doesn’t suck. There was a sign over the cash register at a rehearsal studio I used to go to that said ‘practice more, suck less’....that’s always the goal!
