Alicia

Can you Introduce the band?

Degenerator

Degenerator is Barrett Klesko: Vocals, Guitar, Bass, and Jonathan Webster: Drums. We are members from an assortment of Edmonton-based bands in an array of styles, in the past we have been associated with All Else Fails, Striker, The Order of Chaos, The Secret Places of the Earth, The Misfires, Pass of Era. We are Degenerator, and we are here to make some noise.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Degenerator

Degenerator as a concept refers to themes of societal decay and personal reinvention. Drawing inspiration from the fringes of society, we embrace the roles of outcasts and rebels. Our music is a fusion of diverse genres, creating a sound that's dark, edgy, and experimental.

Alicia

You have an album coming out can you tell us about the recording process.

Degenerator

Our process was unique; we started with drum tracks from Jono’s band, Pass of Era, intended for pre-production. I composed new music over these tracks, after which Jono revisited the drums to match the evolved sound. This reverse approach was unconventional, yet it honed my song writing in unexpected ways.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Degenerator

No, at this time Degenerator is a studio recording project only. I won't rule it out forever, but as of now, we're content to simply create.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Degenerator

Creating enduring music is a challenging journey for bands, often marked by the struggle to maintain creativity and cohesion over time. The path is fraught with obstacles, and only those with resilience and adaptability can navigate the ever- changing landscape of the music industry. This story is true for the music industry in general and is no different in Edmonton where we are from.

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do?

Degenerator

Music has been the compass of my life, guiding me since childhood. At 15, the guitar became my confidant, and by 16, I was woven into the tapestry of my first band. Rock and metal shaped my artistic voice, while filmmaking, photography, and landscape architecture enriched my creative palette. Though these pursuits captured my curiosity, music remained the unwavering flame of my passion. My wanderlust found harmony in music, leading me to perform across the globe. In the symphony of my journey, I founded FadeBack Studios United, a haven for crafting music videos and live concert releases, celebrating the indie spirit. Music is not just a part of my life—it is my life, in all its resonant facets.
