Alicia

Can you introduce the band?

Decorpsetated

Decorpsetated started as a solo recording project by myself, with the goal of utilizing my best songs that didn’t follow the vision of either of my current bands, (Chaotic Christ & Built For Sin). LA drummer and metal head Blake Ryan Chadwick (aka theultim8apocalypse on socials) provided stellar drum performances and production, as well as post FX on Taser Napkin. All vocals, guitars, bass, mixing and mastering were provided by myself.

Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Decorpsetated

I have a habit of making up stupid words but this one sounds metal af so it just fit! I even printed up a dictionary style definition of the name for merch!

Alicia

You have an album coming out, Can you tell us about the recording process?

Decorpsetated

The “Human Words” album was recorded at my home on a MacBook Pro with a UA Apollo Twin interface. I sent Blake drum-free tracks of each song at whatever stage they were at currently. A few songs were finished and others sound very different from what he heard originally. Some had programmed drums that he used for inspiration, and some did not. Like the true professional he is, he caught the vibe of each track perfectly and truly brought them to life! Check his IG or YT channels for a look at his kit and some sick drum content! (link provided below) Guitars used were a Jackson soloist multiscale with EMG 909 pups in drop Eb tuning, a Jackson Kelly tobacco burst 6 string with EMG 81/85 pups and FR in standard Eb tuning, and an Ormsby MetalX Ice Tea multiscale 7 string with Ormsby Blizzard/Concordia pups in standard B and drop A tuning. Bass guitar was programmed with Kontakt EuroBass because I just don’t own a nice fat Dingwall (yet)! Vokillz were recorded on an SM7B in my Dodge RAM truck with an iRig pre and an iPhone 12. I have access to a proper studio with a nice vocal booth but I just didn’t need it for this project. This allowed me to track vocals on a moment’s notice when it felt just right! All mixing and mastering was done on the same MacBook with Slate VSX headphones and a SubPac.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour this release?

Decorpsetated

Although this was built as a studio project, I would put together a badass group of demons under the right circumstances! I would definitely do lead vocals and maybe guitar or bass depending on who else was involved

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from

Decorpsetated

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Eastern Canada. Not a big city, but at roughly 1/2M people there are plenty of metal heads to go around! The underground metal scene thrives on good vibes here. Everyone just likes to have fun and enjoy loud music. I owe a lot of my accomplishments, no matter how small, to the support and friendships made in our scene!

Alicia

Was music something you’ve always wanted to do

Decorpsetated

Yeah since I started breathing! When I was learning to speak I could name every vinyl record my dad owned! Probably 200 at the time! Black Sabbath, Heart, Ohio Players, whatever. I knew them all. Later I was a band geek in school playing baritone sax just because it was big and bad and it was music! Then I heard Megadeth’s Rust In Peace… I got my first guitar when I was 12 (1992) with my own money from delivering news papers every morning before school. I learned every thrash song I could get my hands on! I played them all terribly I’m sure, but I never put it down. When I heard Death’s cover of Painkiller by Judas Priest, my mind was absolutely blown by Chuck’s vocals (RIP). That was the moment I started wishing I could sound like that! All these 30+ years later of playing in local underground bands and honing my skills just for the for love of music, here we are…
