Alicia

Where did the name come from?

Art of Attrition

It was honestly just a cool name that somewhat epitomized how we feel. Life and events are always wearing us down with feeling of frustration, disappointment, bitterness, hate. Life is constantly bombards you with trials and pressure. We wanted to give it a sound to be honest, musically and lyrically.

Alicia

Your E.P. just came out. Can you tell us about the drums recording process?

Art of Attrition

The drums were a challenge as a lot of the parts I created use an insanely difficult technique called the gravity blast. This is where I use my stick's fulcrum on the edge of the snare drum rim. When I move my hand up and down, the stick hits twice: once while going up and then once while going down. It essentially allows you to create a faster, more vicious beat. When this is going, I am doing what’s called “throwing plates” to create a melodic part with whatever melody is happening! FUN FACT: ‘Throwing plates’ was a term Spencer Prewett from Archspire coined.

Alicia

Do you have plans to tour for this release?

Art of Attrition

We are in preliminary planning for a tour in the new year. As it is extremely tough to tour in Canada because of the geography and spacing of cities, it is equally tough to get our visas. A lot of time goes into emailing and eventually paperwork for touring. We do have some shows though! A small run with Angelmaker coming up on August 2nd, 3rd, and 6th! We also have Vancouver, Seattle, and Spokane on July 19th, 20th, and 21st. Then we have Winnipeg and Saskatoon on July 26th and 27th.

Alicia

Can you tell us about the music scene where you’re from?

Art of Attrition

Red Deer has a healthy music scene. In total, for metal specifically, we have one major venue which is a staple. It is called The Vat. Then we have a newly added all-ages venue called The Flex. Fun fact: The tattoo shop my wife and I own is two doors down from The Flex!
